Message from the President |
|
| The time has come for the long, anticipated newsletter.
I was running out of holidays, so let’s call this the Spring
Banquet Newsletter.
Sound familiar? It’s also my
final State of the Chapter newsletter since my tenure is coming to an end.
It has been a great two years. The Chapter has had some memorable
events over the past two years and I would like to take this opportunity to Thank
You all
for your club participation. However,
before departing office, I need to report some very important Chapter News. |

National Service Week: March 2-10 |
|
| I want to thank the volunteers who supported National Service Week. This
year we volunteered our time by supporting another community service project:
Habitat for Humanity. We put on
our painting outfits and painted walls…lots of walls.
What a great way to volunteer time, as well as receive recognition from
the Chairman of Habitat for Humanity, Frank Gorman. Special thanks again to Marquerite Sharp for coordinating
this Chapter event. |

Spring Banquet: May 4, 2002 |
|
| Yes, it’s that time of the year when we get together for our Annual
Spring Banquet. Those of you that attended last year’s event at the Walnut
Grove Country Club enjoyed welcoming Rene Portland, Head Coach of the Lady
Lions Basketball team. It was a very memorable evening for all those who
attended. Let’s make this year’s spring banquet another special evening by
welcoming Ms. Jackie Esposito. Jackie is the University archivist: Do you want
to know about the legend of the Nittany Lion and more about the History of
Penn State? Then what are you waiting for?
Sign up for the banquet. This year the banquet, and the inauguration of
the new Chapter President, Vic Folwarczny, will be held at The Officers Club
on Wright Patterson AFB. More
details in upcoming e-mails, but please give us your RSVP by April 25th.
We are planning another all you can eat Family style dinner and the
cost will be $25 per person. Enclosed
with this newsletter is a reservation form for the banquet.
Please put May 4th on your calendar and let’s give Jackie
a warm Dayton welcome and celebrate Vic’s swearing in ceremony.
Also, a round of drinks will be on one of the Presidents, come and find
out which one. As always, the
greater the number of club attendees at the banquet, the better chance we will
have in inviting other well known University speakers.
If you have any questions, contact Edie Kreider at 429-5501 or kreiderfam@prodigy.net

Scholarship Fund Grows $$$$ |
|
|
To honor the efforts of Carl Stravinski, `41,
Past President of the Penn State Club of Greater Dayton, a scholarship fund
was established in 1986. The fund
is now endowed through the Pennsylvania State University Alumni Association.
I am pleased to report to you the Endowment book value, which
represents all gifts to this fund from any source and any transfers from the
spending account, which has been reinvested in the amount of $38,621.15.
We award grants based on a portion of the funds. We are further pleased
to report that the balance of our Chapter’s local scholarship fund is now at
$2000. This is $500 over the previous years scholarship award.
One way to continue this positive trend is to make your charitable
contributions to the Carl Stravinski Scholarship Fund when the University
contacts you. This will allow us
to continue to increase our scholarship awards.
As always, your support is needed, and remember no gift is too small. It may even be tax deductible.
Thanks in advance for supporting our Greater Dayton Chapter. |

Webmaster Corner :) |
|
| Webmaster
Bob Gehman has continued to upgrade our website and as a result, we have a new
dedicated web site for the Dayton Chapter. The board has unanimously voted on
a new Chapter domain and you can access this website at:
psualumnidayton.org. Bob
says the site is now operational, so make sure to log on and check it out.
This site is a great place to visit along with the ability to link to
other Penn State sites. You’ll
find great pictures of Club events displayed on the site along with upcoming
events. Much thanks goes out to
Bob for keeping us on track with the Internet and posting our club events.
As we continue to grow, our Chapter will need to continue to enhance
our means for communicating club activities.
Stay tuned, changes will surely be coming.
Don’t get left behind… keep us as one of your favorite sites and
visit us often. |

30 Year Club Anniversary |
|
| The Dayton Chapter is
now celebrating its 30-year Anniversary, and as a special tribute
we will commemorate this milestone with a beautifully designed Penn State
Dayton Chapter note cube pad that has our club logo and will hold 700 sheets
of postit note paper. You can
purchase a piece of the Chapter’s 30 year history when you renew your club
membership this year. Help
celebrate the Dayton Chapter’s 30 years in the Miami Valley.
Cost of the commemorative cube will be $10.00, so please order one for
yourself and one for your workplace. Depending
on the number of cubes we order, the price may vary, so if the total purchase
price is $8.00 instead of $10.00 the difference will automatically go into the
scholarship fund. If you would like the difference back, just let Edie know
and we will gladly provide you a refund.

Fox and Hound Game Days |
|
| As most of you are
aware, this past football season is now history; but Joe Pa managed to pass
Bear Bryant as the nations winningest coach in NCAA football. We invite you to join us again, in Centerville, at the Fox
and Hound during the football season. We had good food and fun so please join
us. Meeting at the Fox &
Hound is an excellent way to meet alumni as well as make you feel like you’re
back on campus during football weekends.
Also this year we will be planning a bus trip to the Ohio State game.
More details in future website news and e-mails. |

Corner Comments: Finally, I want to
thank everyone for supporting our local Chapter and the many contributions you
have made in volunteering your time and talents. As a reminder, Chapter Membership dues for 2002-2003 will now

good communications with all Chapter members.
Get involved in Chapter activities by contacting a board member or
myself. Lastly, if you know
