2001's First Football Game at the Fox and Hound |
There was an air of optimism floating in and around the Penn State Room at the Fox and Hound. It was early Saturday evening, September 1st, and local Penn Staters were on-hand for an early dinner and the matchup between Penn State and Miami. No matter that the Hurricanes were a 12 point favorite. This was a new season, and with it Joepa's on-going quest to surpass Bear Bryant's all-time win record. That, and a Beaver Stadium enlargement to a capacity of over 106,000. Maybe the Lions could surprise the pundits and themselves by pulling off a major upset with their first game. But, no, it was not to be, as the Lions went down to a 33 - 7 defeat. |
Despite the disappointment of a 30 - 0 first half deficit, the PSU loyal and their families made the best of the situation. Mike Thorpe, the Fox and Hound's Event Coordinator, outdid himself by festooning our room with helium-filled blue and white balloons. Mike and his friendly, capable staff went out of their way to welcome us and make us feel at home. They even installed wall material to shield our room from the inquisitive eyes of non-Penn Staters. And, the food was great as usual. |

Maybe things will go better for the Lions on Thursday, September 13th, when they Virginia. Join us at the Fox and Hound to find out. In the meantime, take a look at the pictures below to see the activity at the Fox and Hound prior to and during the Miami game. |
