It
was a dark and stormy night.. nah some other great author uses that starting
phrase. But it is a dark day in
Dayton as I write this, because my term as president ends this May at the
Spring Banquet and this is my last newsletter. Serving you as president was
fun e.g. keeping things exciting at the football games doing pushups (with a
whole lot of help) and full of accomplishments
e.g. writing newsletters (editing and mailing by Edie Kreider). Those
are simple examples to illustrate that a president gets things done with a lot
of effort by others. For that reason, I thank the members of the board for
their hard work, support and friendship. They are fantastic to work with and
fun to hang with. This has been true for the entire time I have been in the
club, and I expect no less of them in the future. I’m sure John Glaser, the
current Vice President, who will take the presidential reigns come May already
knows this. I may not be
president after May but I will still be active and I encourage all of you not
yet involved to join me. You will help make this club stronger and enable it
to increase its accomplishments, and in doing so I know you will have some
fun.
There are several upcoming events that you need to put on your calendars.

BOARD
MEETING
A brief board meeting will be held at the Spring Banquet on May 1. The new president will assume the responsibilities of presiding over the club’s activities for the next 2 years and the slate of officers and board members will be presented and approved at this meeting. We are still looking for a vice president, and recording secretary and there is room on the board for additional members. All members are welcome to attend the meetings. Membership to the Board is open to any chapter member. The board meetings occur about 4 times a year.
BIG
TEN NIGHT AT THE DAYTON DRAGONS
Plan to join us and other Big Ten alums and friends on Saturday July 17th at Big Ten night with the Dragons. The Dragons Den will be filled with about 400 boisterous big ten supporters and our club will be among them. The local Purdue Alumni Chapter is organizing this event and joining them will be our Penn State Alumni chapter, as well as the local alumni chapters of Michigan, Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan State, and Minnesota. At this time we have 40 tickets available at $10.00 each and that includes a baseball cap. We had 42 but I have purchased 2 of them. Get in touch with Vic Folwarczny or any board member of the Penn State Alumni Club to reserve your tickets.
TRAINING
SESSION
On Saturday, February 28th our club hosted a training session for ourselves and representatives from other alumni chapters at Homewood Suites in Fairborn. Seven of our board members as well as one person from the Akron Chapter, two people from the Cincinnati Chapter, and one person from the Columbus Chapter attended. Cheryl Stringer and Dana Allen, Regional Directors of the PSU Alumni Association, presented the following topics:
. Awards and Recognition
. Recruiting and Retaining Members
. Alumni Association Benefits and Expectations
After
the presentation the four chapters discussed program successes and chapter
concerns. In the near future our web site will have more details on this very
informative and helpful training.
CHAPTER

Donations to the scholarship are welcome. Your support of this fund will allow
us to continue to assist our students, and to increase the amount and/or
number of scholarships we can
award. The fund is endowed through the Pennsylvania State University.
