PRESIDENT'S NOTE

This year is going to be a banner for our chapter.  We have made some changes to strengthen our organization and hope to introduce some new opportunities and programs that will make your chapter more enjoyable and active.  If you have any ideas of things you would like to see changed or activities that you think we should become involved in please drop me an email or call me, 426-7632 or jjglaser@earthlink.net.

Our annual elections were held at the May Banquet and I want to welcome two new faces to our board.  Vice President Sonia Leach and Secretary Debbie Downes.  Along with the officers we now have 15 members on the board of directors.  We still have 3 vacancies for those of you that want to become more active in our programs.  You can see all the members in living color on our web page.

Our chapter goals this year include:
  • Increasing our local membership as well as encouraging more of you to become life time members of the alumni association.
  • I am also looking for ideas for some special programs that will qualify for university grants.  One possibility is a display at the Dayton Air Show in 2005.
  • Last year we applied for a record of 5 awards.  My goal is to win recognition for our chapter and send representatives to the annual awards banquet at University Park.
  • We have had contact with other alumni chapters in Cincinnati, Columbus, Akron, and Toledo on joining with them with activities such as a lunch or dinner with a university speaker.
  • And finally, it would be great to see more of you at our two social events; the Holiday Party (Dec. 1) and our Annual Banquet (May 1).

CARL STRAVINSKI SCHOLARSHIPS

Our most recent winners are Leah Critchley and Margaret Kridler.  These two young women will each be awarded a $1,300 scholarship and honored at our annual Summer Picnic and Freshmen Send-off on August 11, 2004.  Leah, who hails from Troy, is a kinesiology major and will graduate in May 2005.  Likewise, Margaret is also a kinesiology major and is anticipating graduating in 2006.  Margaret, when she is not in school, lives in Springfield.  Donations are welcome.  Your support of this fund will allow us to continue to assist our students, and to increase the amount and /or number of scholarships we can award.  The fund is endowed through the Pennsylvania State University.

CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The home page for on-line giving is:  www.MakeADifference.psu.edu. Yes, you can make a chapter contribution online.  It needs to be done by picking "other" and listing the name or allocation code for the endowment.  For our chapter it is the CARL STRAVINSKI ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP OF THE PENN STATE CLUB OF GREATER DAYTON.  The allocation code is SXXDY.  Either the name or the allocation code will work.
