What's New?

NEW LOCATION FOR TV FOOTBALL PARTIES.  October 4th is the day for our football bus trip to Purdue.   Folks not going on the bus trip can catch all the action at the Fox and Hound in Beavercreek, just south of the Fairfield Commons Mall at 2661 Fairfield Commons.  The telephone number there is 937-426-4145. So come on out to the Fox and Hound and root for the Blue and White with your fellow Penn Staters.
And speaking of football, there are still five ticket packages left for the bus trip to Purdue, so please contact Edie Kreider and tell her you'd LOVE to join us.  The package is a steal for only $105 — game ticket, bus trip to and from, parking, beverages and snacks during the trip, tailgating before and after the game . . . PLUS the fun and camaraderie of fellow Penn Staters decked out in Blue and White cheering the team on to victory.  You'll also have a chance to see the Nittany Lion in person, and maybe even have your picture taken with him.  Contact Edie pronto via e-mail ( kreiderfam@prodigy.net )or call her at 937-429-5501.
IS THERE A VP IN THE HOUSE?   We're STILL looking for a vice president to establish a clear line of succession. As Edie Kreider so aptly put it in a recent e-mail to the membership, "We are still in need of a Vice-President to take over Michael's reign in 2010.  So please give some thought to throwing in your hat.  Although the job sounds a bit daunting, as I have said before, this chapter is indeed lucky to have quite a few still active past presidents to assist you during your term of office.  We have so many great people attending our functions, and I would love to see some more of you get involved in the coordination of the activities.  We only have about 5 board meetings a year, so the time commitment can be as much or as little as you are able to give.  So come on, get your feet wet as the vice-president, and join our Board.  We also have openings for general board members, so if you're still not sure about the vice-presidency, give the board a try and see how you feel."
CARL STRAVINSKI PASSES AWAY.  Carl Stravinski, a long-time friend and ardent supporter of Penn State, the Penn State Alumni Association, and our Dayton Chapter, died on Thursday, August 14, 2008. Carl's obituary appeared in the Sunday, August 17, edition of the Centre Daily Times.
Carl and his wife, Roni, lived here in Dayton for a number of years.  It was in 1971 that Carl started what became the Dayton Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association.  The chapter eventually endowed a scholarship in his honor.  Such is the affection the Stravinski's hold for our chapter that they have continued to contribute annually to the scholarship fund.
Many Dayton Chapter members have had the pleasure of knowing Carl and Roni quite well, have treasured their relationship with the Stravinski's, and have fond memories of happy times together.  We express our condolences to Roni, and wish Carl Godspeed.
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION LIFE MEMBERSHIP.  One of our chapter goals is to increase the number of life members in the Penn State Alumni Association.  Alumni, students, family, and friends are welcome to join.  Why not make a commitment to support Penn State as a new member  — or renewing member — on a lifetime basis?  Individual and joint memberships are available, and special rates apply to recent Penn State grads and people age 60 and over.  Go to the Alumni Association's Member Center page for more information about the many benefits of membership and/or to begin the application process. When you apply for life membership on-line, remember to use "AIQ" as your 3-digit Penn State Group ID Code.
